Automotive Electrical I Activity Manual
Course Description and Objective:
In this course the student is introduced to basic automotive battery, charging and starting systems. The operating principles will be discussed during the lecture/discussion sessions. Lab sessions are spent practicing testing, diagnosis and repair.
Upon completion of this course the student will have a basic understanding of:
> Automotive battery operation
> Automotive battery service
> Charging system operating principles
> Charging system testing, diagnosis and repair
> Starting system operating principles
> Starting system testing, diagnosis and repair
> Wire repair
Grading: final grade will be based on these areas:
Lab Tests .45%
Lab Worksheets & Log entries 20%
Quizzes ...25%
Final Test 10%
Total 100%
Quizzes will be given every other day, before the lecture.
A missed quiz must be made-up the day the student returns.
Lab worksheets will be turned in after each lab assignment is completed. Worksheets will not be accepted more than two days after they are due, except in cases of absence.
A weekly lab log will be kept by each student. The student will record his/her lab activity for the day. The daily lab grade will be determined from the students log. Any lab sheets will be turned in with the log. The log must be turned in every day. A log not turned in will result in a zero for the weekly lab grade and lab assignments sheets.
The log entry must include the following: Name, Day & Date, Description of the lab activity (minimum of five sentences), Five things learned that week, Difficulties experienced that week and Description of the best part of the week.
Lab work will be graded in two ways:
1. Lab Assignment sheets.
2. Weekly lab on a scale of 0-4.
Lab tests will be given during the course. These will be "hands-on" tests over lab topics.
Lab tests may NOT be retaken!
Students maintaining an overall grade average of an "A" at the end of the course are not required to take the final test.
Final Grading Scale:
A > 90 - 100%
B > 80 - 89%
C > 70 - 79%
D > 60 - 69%
F > 59% and below
Policies concerning academic dishonesty and student conduct can be found in the EICCD Student Handbook.
