Watch for words like causes, effects, sources, impact, motivates, happens, outcomes, or reasons.

Suggestions for Writing:

1.  Stay focused on your purpose.

2.  Adapt the content and tone to the purpose and audience.

3.  Think rigorously about causes and effects (use graphic organizer)

 

 

 

 

 

4.  Write a thesis focusing on causes, effects, or both.

5.  Choose an organizational pattern (often chronological or emphatic).

6.  Use language that hints at the complexity of cause-effect relationships.  Avoid absolutes.
