Suggestions:
1. Beware that words have denotation (standard, non-biased, dictionary) and connotation (emotionally-charged attachment which may change by individual).
2. Stay focused on the audience, purpose, and tone.
3. Formulate an effective definition starting with definition by synonym, definition by class (term+class+characteristics), or definition by negation.
4. Develop the extended definition through examples, comparisons, and contrasts
5. Select an appropriate organizational pattern for your examples.
6. Write an effective introduction possibly using the origin/etymology of the word or trying a definition by negation.
