Chapter Review Notes:

description-  the expression, in vivid language, of what the senses experience

objective- straight forward description, unbiased as observed by a camera

subjective-conveys a personal view to elicit a strong emotional response

Suggestions for Writing:

1.  focus on a dominant impression for topic sentence or thesis statement

2.  select only details relevant to the dominant impression

3.  organize by spatial, chronological, or emphatic and use appropriate transitions

4.  use vivid sensory language (sight, sound, smell, touch, taste), vigorous verbs, exact language, and if necessary figures of speech (simile, metaphor, personification)

Assignment:  Write a single paragraph description of a favorite place, person, or object.
