Textbook:
Francis, G. Jay, and Siegel, Susan. Principles of Banking, Seventh
Edition, American Bankers Association, 2001.
Course Contents:
We will cover most of chapters one (1) - thirteen (13).
Course Objectives:
Presents an overview of full-service commercial banking in America.
Introduces organizational structure, major functions, products and
services, and the major departments of banks as well as demand and time
deposits, negotiable instruments, bank loans and investments. Discusses
banking in a competitive, regulated, and increasingly global economy
Homework:
Appropriate problem assignments on current material will be given at the
lecture. Ideally, these assignments should be completed before the next
lecture.
Quizzes:
Approximately five (5) ten (10) minute quizzes will be given during the
course of the semester. The lowest grade will be dropped. There will be no
make-up quizzes.
Paper:
Each student is required to write a paper. Papers are due on Monday,
May 10, 2004. No paper will be accepted after the due date.
Tests:
There will be two (2) in-class tests and one (1) final exam.

Course grades will be based on a total of 600 points as follows:

Attendance:
Constant attendance is essential to keep up in the course. Students are
responsible for all work covered in class, including all assignments, even
if absent from class. Hour exams must be taken at the announced time;
makeup exams will be given only in the case of severe illness.
