GRADES FOR MICROCOMPUTER APPLICATIONS

Grades are determined by a point system in which you receive points for various activities:

100 points per test

Final Exam

200 points

This is a comprehensive exam, which covers the whole course.

Labs

about 150 points

These are assignments to be completed in the computer lab or at another computer, if one is available to you. There will be approximately one per week, usually at 10 points per assignment. There may be more points for longer assignments.

In-Class Exercises

about 30 points

These are short exercises to illustrate material being covered in class. They are generally 5 points each and are due at the end of the class period in which they are given. These are not announced in advance, and there are no make-ups allowed on these exercises. Some are pencil-and-paper exercises, and some make use of the computer. The hours designated "individual lab" will not be used for this kind of exercise. The lowest grade from this group of exercises will be dropped.

ATTENDANCE AND MAKE-UPS

Points are not given just for attendance. However, the tests, exams, etc. are based very heavily on classroom work. Therefore you run the risk of missing something necessary for a test if you miss class.

Make ups for

1. IN-CLASS EXERCISES:

Make-ups for these are not allowed. However, the lowest one will be dropped.

2. LABS:

These can be performed during the individual lab session scheduled for each section of the course. The college also has an open computer lab, which can be used by any student. If you miss the individual lab session, you can use the open lab to perform the lab assignments.

3. TESTS AND EXAMS

An effort will be made to schedule a make up if you had a good reason to miss the test or exam. The make-up must be completed before the test or exam is given back to the class.

DEADLINES

Deadlines will be established for various kinds of work. These can vary depending on conditions, and complete details will be announced in class. Labs will usually be due one week after the lab work is handed out to the class. Late labs will be accepted for up to half credit. In-Class-Exercises will generally be due at the end of the class session in which they are given, and no late work of this type will be accepted. There will be a FINAL DUE DATE for all work after which NO WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED. This final due date will be close of business on the last day of classes before the final exam schedule begins. (During a summer session, the due date will be the day of the final exam.).
